Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

Protecting your information is our priority. This Privacy Policy applies to StarHunt ("StarHunt") and governs data collection and usage. StarHunt is a developer sourcing tool that helps recruiters find and export technical profiles from GitHub. We need to process certain personal information to run our service and provide you with the features you've requested. By using StarHunt, you confirm that you have read and understood this policy, including how and why we use your information. If you don't want us to collect or process your information as described here, you should not use the service.

By using StarHunt, you acknowledge that your data may be processed in the United States and other countries where our infrastructure providers operate, including Supabase and Render. Privacy laws in these countries may differ from those in your country of residence. We transfer personal information only to countries where we are permitted to do so by law, and we take steps to ensure it remains appropriately protected.

Collection of your personal information

When you sign in with GitHub, StarHunt collects and stores your GitHub username, profile picture, subscription plan, and usage counters (number of searches and exports performed). If you purchase a paid plan, Stripe processes your payment information directly · StarHunt never stores credit card details.

StarHunt also indexes publicly available GitHub profile data to power its search engine. This includes information that developers have chosen to make public on their GitHub profile: display name, bio, location, follower count, public repository count, public email address, and website. This data comes exclusively from GitHub's public API and is already accessible to anyone on github.com. We cache this data locally to improve search speed and quality. Profiles are refreshed after 365 days or removed sooner upon request.

StarHunt sets a single session cookie (session_id) to keep you signed in. This cookie is strictly necessary for the service to function, expires after 8 hours, and is never used for tracking or advertising purposes.

Use of your personal information

StarHunt collects and uses your personal information to operate the service and deliver the features you have requested, including authenticating your identity, enforcing plan limits, storing your export history, and improving search result quality over time.

StarHunt does not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing or commercial purposes. We may share data with trusted infrastructure providers (Supabase, Render, Stripe) solely to operate the service. These providers are prohibited from using your information for any other purpose and are required to maintain its confidentiality.

StarHunt will disclose your personal information without notice only if required by law or in good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) comply with legal process or obligations; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of StarHunt; or (c) protect the personal safety of users or the public.

Your responsibilities as a StarHunt user

When you export developer profiles from StarHunt, you receive personal data (names, locations, emails) and become responsible for how you use it. This means you are an independent data controller under GDPR for any information you export, store, or act upon outside of StarHunt.

You are responsible for complying with applicable data protection laws when using exported profiles · including not contacting developers in ways they have not consented to, and not sharing their information with unauthorized third parties. StarHunt is not responsible for how you use the data you export.

How long we keep your data

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the EU or EEA, you have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you, to object to certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority (CNIL in France).

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app settings. If you are a developer whose GitHub profile has been indexed and you wish to be removed from our search index, email us and we will action your request promptly.

Changes to this policy

StarHunt will occasionally update this Privacy Policy. We encourage you to review it periodically. Continued use of StarHunt after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
